Listening Clubs in Malawi

In September 2025 Good News Broadcasting, with the partnership of Zambesi Mission, were able to send some radio devices and Bible-teaching programmes to the students at the Evangelical Bible College of Malawi. This pilot scheme is now about to expand and we are excited to be able to update you…

The three radio devices we sent were loaded with SD cards containing a number of Word Alive and Bible Focus programmes, along with the complete series of The Bible OverBrew podcasts. Three ‘listening clubs’ were established at EBCoM with 15 students in each one. Every Tuesday evening the students meet to listen to one of the programmes and then discuss the teaching. These groups are run as an extra curricular activity but many students report that they are finding them valuable to their ministry formation and personal spiritual growth.

Regional Director of ZM, Anthony Masala, and EBCoM Principal, Gift Mphongolo, are keen to expand the project. They would love to see more listening clubs established in the local churches and amongst the youth in Blantyre where the college is situated. They have recently begun to communicate this vision to the students and are training them to set up new listening clubs ready to take the scheme into local churches. Their target is to establish ten clubs in selected churches and communities by 2027.

Obviously, here at GNB, we are thrilled that God is using our programmes in this way. We wanted to send seven more radios to help meet the target so, this Summer, while exhibiting at Lake Road Chapel during the Keswick Convention, we invited people to sponsor a radio. All seven radios were sponsored! A donation of £40 covers the cost of one radio and the SD card to which we add the programmes. Director of ZM, Mike McCabe, God-willing, will be travelling to Malawi very soon to deliver them in person.
